Plenty Wild Wedding — Pemberton, BC
When I decided to start blogging again, I decided I’d start with some of my very favourite weddings from the past few years. And this wedding for my long-time friends Alyssa and David was such a special one.
Alyssa and I met in our first year at UVic while living in dorms together and became fast friends. We shared our love of the outdoors and grandiose adventures. We adopted a bunny together, went daffodil picking on a local farm, took road trips together, and many adventures including a 5-day ferry trip to Alaska.
A few years after that, Alyssa met David and they bonded over their interests in food, the environment, and then farming. They are both passionate about sustainable agriculture and after several years of education and experience on farms, they bought their own farm in Pemberton BC. Although Alyssa and David had been together for several years, she’d insisted that they wait to get married until they could do it on their own farm. When the wedding day finally arrived I could see how this dream had come to fruition.
Plenty Wild Farms is a small-scale organic family farm where they grow the most perfect, gorgeous, delicious vegetables you’ll ever find. Alyssa and David take such pride in their work and it’s obvious in every detail on the farm. When they asked me to document their wedding on the farm, I knew it would be an absolutely wonderful opportunity to create truly beautiful art alongside them.
As if the majestic backdrop of the mountains weren’t enough, they planted a crop of sunflowers to beautify their ceremony space. The farm itself was in full bounty as it was Labour Day long weekend when all their friends and family gathered on the farm for a weekend of celebration. The weather was perfect, with a foggy morning burning off into a bright afternoon.
The entire day was splendidly and thoughtfully executed — from the floral arrangements made by a flower farmer friend to the joyful ceremony and of course, the amazing food. I captured the preparations, family portraits, and the ceremony, and then took my seat as a guest at the reception. It was a jubilant celebration culminating in a night of dancing to a carefully curated playlist with a healthy mix of pop and classic country tunes.
It was such a memorable wedding that it feels like it only just took place, but Alyssa and David will be celebrating their 5th wedding anniversary this summer. They’ve expanded their farm and continue to love their work and their life together, and have since added their son Felix to the Plenty Wild family.
